Wacky Wednesday

The girls were upstairs playing in their room so I went to check on them, to find Lizzie sitting on her bed staring at the dresser (Hannah was changing her clothes in the closet for about the 47th time today).

Me: What are you doing?
L: Watching my pretend TV.
Me: What's on.
L: The Simpsons. It's funny.

Then she went on to tell me that it would be really nice to have a real TV in her room. I told her not a chance. :) Rob is hoping that soon she'll be happy to play with a pretend cat. Again, I say, not a chance.

Kindergarten Roundup

Hannah and Lizzie went to the Kindergarten Roundup today. Let me tell you kindergarten sure is different today than it was 45 years ago when I went. I found my class picture from kindergarten while I was going through boxes (still!) the other day and saw that there were 35 kids in my kindergarten class. I also found my 3rd grade picture and there were 30 kids in that class. Yet somehow I managed to get educated. The girls' kindergarten class will have somewhere between 17 and 23 children. However, the most jarring thing was not class size or the fact that they need to begin the basics for trig and calculus in kindergarten, but rather that they are class of 2021!!
Anyway, I'll let them tell you a little bit about their morning.

I found a few more photos I wanted to share!Just before the wedding ... taking a breather from photos!

The girls doing their thing. Hopefully the photographer got some better pictures as I was stuck up in the choir loft, on the altar behind the groom and best man. But you can still see how adorable they looked!!

Here Comes the Flower Girls

We had a spectaular weekend! Below will be tons of photos from the wedding which was lovely in all ways. Aunt Kim was lovely (so was the recently dubbed UNCLE Mike), the weather was beyond lovely and nearly everything came off without a hitch.

Hannah and Elizabeth were very excited and not happy about how long it was taking to get to the rehearsal on Friday, but those of you who know Rob will understand that a stop of the White Castle in Nyack was mandatory. Luckily we had plenty of time, so Bob could linger over his WC burgers. I ate two chicken rings and had had enough. We got back in the car and then spent about another hour on the Merritt Parking Lot getting to Trumbull.

The best news for Hannah and Liz was that we got there early enough to squeeze in a Happy Meal and they had a DIFFERENT toy than the toys currently being included in Pennsylvania (not that we go to McDonalds every week or anything.)

The rehearsal went fine. I had some issues with my reading, which, though ostensibly English did not make sense to me. (Don't worry Mom, it wasn't anything from the Bible.) But, trouper that I am, I read it as written and no one seemed to think it was wrong (because they were looking at the beautiful bride and groom and not listening to me.)

And really the only Rasmussen glitch on the Wedding Day was when, during a quiet moment of reflection during communion, Hannah asked (really loudly, of course) "WHY ARE THEY EATING THOSE CRACKERS!!

Seriously, Rob needs to start taking them to church... :)

The girls (and ring bearer Tanner, right; and special usher Tyler -- Kim's nephews) get some instructions from the photographer. Aren't they all adorable???

Here's what the girls think about love and marriage after being in the wedding.

Hannah says that once you are in love and get married you can hug a lot and play games whenever you want.

Lizzie says that once you are married you get a ring and kiss all the time, like even right now, and then she doesn't know what happens because she is not married.

We spent the weekend with TA, Ann and family and I have some cute photos from that, too, which I'll post later in the week.

Dress Rehearsal

It's HERE!! WEDDING WEEKEND!!! We've been so excited about this weekend for a looooong time and now it's here. Not only do Hannah and Liz get to be the flower girls at our friend Kim's wedding, but they also get to spend the weekend with their cousins. Stay tuned for LOTS of pictures at the beginning of the week!!

We've been working on walking and making sure that the dresses fit and even trying some different hairdos. Lizzie told me today that she doesn't want to have curly hair for the weekend. I think it's because of the experiment that is depicted (halfway) below.

The reason you don't see the after pictures is because the girls looked pretty bad (not that they could ever look BAD!) and reminded me very much of when my mom tried to perm Tally's hair when she was about 7 years old. So, I think we'll just stick with the hairbands for the wedding unless I am feeling brave on Saturday morning. Or I can convince someone ELSE to curl their hair.

So we're just about ready to head up to New York (the wedding is in Connecticut) but tried on the dresses ONE TIME (carefully avoiding all dust and grass and anything that might mar them!) and the girls had a great time twirling around and jumping for joy. I can't wait to see them at the wedding. The dresses actually have red sashes that match the bridesmaid dresses, but they won't get them until the wedding day.

Wacky Wednesday and other news

Yesterday Lizzie tried to bite Hannah which is a HUGE CRIME in this family. When Hannah yelled "LIZZIE TRIED TO BITE ME," F. Liz Bailey responded, "No I didn't, I was just trying to taste your jeans!"

And here's some more wackiness.

Lizzie got angry with me earlier today because I would not let her spray her sister with a squirt bottle.

So she fired me.

Seriously. She looked right at me and said, "Mommy, you are FIRED!"

I wonder if I get a severence package?

So, back before I was fired, the girls had their annual art show at their preschool. Rob went into work late so he could attend and the girls were thrilled. I can't imagine anything that Daddy would do that would get HIM fired. The art show was really wonderful. Hannah and Lizzie now make things that actually LOOK like the things they are supposed to be (most of the time.) Here are a couple of pictures from the show:

The first two photos are the girls with their papier mache creations (obviously Lizzie's is a heart and Hannah's is an abstract form) and the bottom picture is Lizzie holding a mask that her class made. She's standing next to her classmate Skyla.

Wacky Wednesday

I heard this screamed in my backyard soon after I told Hannah I'd watch Ken while she played on the swingset, if she'd just leave me alone so I could make some phone calls.

"HEY LIZZIE, KEN IS SLEEPING WITH MOMMY, SO SHE NEEDS SOME ALONE TIME!!!"

The neighbors must love us.

Skating By

The girls were invited to a birthday party at a roller skating rink today. Neither had been on skates ever, yet both assured me that they did not need any help roller skating. In Lizzie's case this proved to be true.

I put her skates on and she was off, dragging me and her sister behind her.

Hannah on the other hand was terrified and cried until I brought her back to the bleachers. I tried to bring Lizzie back, too, but she was having NONE of that.

I had the roller skate guy tighten the bolts on Hannah's skates so they wouldn't roll too much and then she, too was off.

They both fell a lot. Some of the other parents were looking at me oddly because, you know, in this day and age, you don't let your children take wild leaps on wheels and then fall flat on their faces but I just responded with a wistful, 'they certainly are daredevils, aren't they?' See, I am not of this day and age and besides, they LIKED falling. And, truth be told, I tripped a couple of times myself and I wasn't even wearing skates. :)

Anyway, a great time was had by all and it wasn't long before I noticed other parents letting their kids skate and fall, too. The Rasmussens are such trend setters!

They really had a great time. My favorite part though was when Hannah skated in the middle of the whole crowd and did the Hokey Pokey all by herself! It was priceless. Here's Hannah smiling at me after she was done (sorry for the quality of these photos, the lighting was terrible and my flash doesn't illuminate much!)

And finally ... here's a picture of Lizzie who didn't stop skating for about 2 solid hours and then the batteries just ran out. :) The little girl in the background is her friend Addy, from school.
